Two senior U.S. senators pressed President Barack Obama in a letter released Monday local time to deliver free trade agreement (FTA) with South Korea is long overdue, to Congress for approval.
Leadership of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, John Kerry, a Democrat, and members of the panel’s senior Republican, Senator Richard Lugar, urged Obama to work with lawmakers to end the hostilities because the beef and cars that have hampered the treaty.
“Submission of the agreement to Congress will also be considered as a sufficient step to show solidarity with the close and reliable ally,” they said in a letter Friday, which called for action “as soon as possible.”
South Korea said in mid-November that they were ready to hold talks to reduce concerns among U.S. lawmakers about the agreement, particularly on market access for exports of U.S. beef and cars. Read the rest of this entry »
